Description

Also known as the true cinnamon (Cinnamon verum), this species is native to Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh and Myanmar. The powder comes from a thin inner layer in the bark of the cinnamon tree, with a subtle and aromatic flavour. It is used in culinary, cosmetics and lately also as a dietary supplement.

Cinnamon is a potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, especially in extract form. Its polyphenols, namely rutin, catechin, quercetin, kaempferol and isorhamnetin are responsible for most of its health-promoting effects.
